Description
Dive into the history of the D-Day landings of 6 June 1944 with this immersive guided tour of the emblematic sites of the British sector. From Longues-sur-Mer to Ouistreham, via Arromanches, Ver-sur-Mer and Pegasus Bridge, discover the places where British troops played a crucial role in the liberation of France.
Day’s programme:
Start your tour at the Longues-sur-Mer Battery, a strategic site of the Atlantic Wall. Its German guns, still in place, bear witness to the firepower that awaited the Allies on D-Day. This site also offers a spectacular panorama of the English Channel and the D-Day beaches.
Continue your immersion in Arromanches-les-Bains, where you will discover the remains of the Mulberry B artificial port, an engineering feat that allowed the delivery of Allied reinforcements.
A visit to the D-Day Museum will immerse you in the details of this incredible construction and the role of the British in this operation.
Recently inaugurated, the Ver-sur-Mer British Memorial pays tribute to the 22,442 British soldiers who fell in 1944. This majestic and moving site overlooks Gold Beach, where the British 50th Infantry Division successfully landed.
Lunch
Head to Pegasus Bridge, symbol of one of the first D-Day operations. On the night of June 5-6, 1944, British paratroopers from the 6th Airborne Division took control of this strategic bridge.
The Pegasus Bridge Museum will immerse you in the history of glider troops, with authentic objects, poignant testimonies and a real Horsa glider on display.
Located near Pegasus Bridge, it is the first cemetery established after June 6, 1944 and contains 2,236 graves, mainly of British soldiers from the 6th Airborne Division, who were among the first to fight in Normandy.
End the visit at Sword Beach, where the British forces, accompanied by the French commandos of Commando Kieffer, landed under enemy fire. Today peaceful, this beach was the scene of violent clashes on the morning of June 6, 1944. You will discover several monuments and the Grand Bunker, a former German command post.
